My experience: A navratra night in Ahmedabad
Gujarat never sleeps during Navratri. What a festival it is?
A strong desire to see this unique tradition of Gujarat, I along with partner Ms Beenu flown in to Ahmedabad.
Draped in colourful costumes women folks in Ghagra Cholis and man in pyjama Kurta all set to dance together.
The tone of Gujarati Folk music set on. And the legs started shaking. And as the time passes the beating of drums become more loud and the gharba catches speed.
Then after two hours of intense dance, now it’s turn of “Nashta” and each and everyone is served Jalebi, Fafda, papita Sambhra and hot tea. The beauty of this programme is that residents sponsor turn by turn. No compulsion.
Wait for 30 minutes and then its turn of Dandia. The beat of Dandia with its melodious synchronisation compel you to play with each member of the group. What a inspiring dance it is!!!
Now it is 1 am and Sandio is going on. Nobody is yet tired and beauty with mesmerising scentic atmosphere the night has become memorable for ever.
