Public health and sanitation have always been close to my heart. While India has made great strides in infrastructure, economy, and education, we are still decades behind in cleanliness. Compared to even the poorest European countries, our cities seem 50 years backward.
Prime Minister Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan brought much-needed change, especially in rural areas tackling open defecation. However, in cities, we still face garbage heaps, stray animals, and neglected public spaces. Step outside Delhi Railway Station, and you’re greeted with trash—not the "Incredible India" we imagine!
Being from Jodhpur, I’ve seen the city grow into a modern hub with institutions like AIIMS and IIT. The city boasts of the highest Chartered Accountants per capita and has produced top jurists, doctors, and industrialists. It even gave Rajasthan its longest-serving Chief Minister (Sh Ashok Gehlot) and several key Central Ministers. Yet, for all this prestige, Jodhpur struggles with cleanliness. Despite efforts by concerned citizens, little has improved.
We need a joint effort from both the government and the public to prioritize sanitation as much as economic growth. Only then can we close this gap and ensure a healthier, cleaner India.
I am presenting a short video that showcases both the old and new sides of Jodhpur, intentionally avoiding certain traces.
