Our Heritage : A Gateway to Economic Prosperty

Heritage has always held a special place in my heart. India, with its rich tapestry of culture and remarkable diversity, remains united by an unbreakable bond: our value system. Over centuries of Mughal and British rule—spanning nearly 700 years—our core cultural identity, religious beliefs, and heritage stood strong and resilient, untouched by external influence.

Each city in India brims with cultural treasures, offering tremendous economic potential. We can unlock significant employment opportunities and fuel economic growth by harnessing this untapped wealth and commercializing our heritage.

Take Rajasthan, a land known for its majestic forts, palaces, havelis, and iconic monuments. Jodhpur, my birthplace, is home to the breathtaking Mehrangarh Fort, which sits proudly atop a sandstone hill. Built by Rao Jodha in 1459, this architectural wonder has stood the test of time for over 565 years, its grandeur growing with every passing day. Covering nearly 1,200 acres, Mehrangarh Fort remains an enduring symbol of Rajasthan's cultural heritage.

Today, the fort continues to be managed by the current Maharaja, Gaj Singh Ji of Jodhpur, with impeccable attention to detail and care. It boasts modern amenities like car parking for over 250 vehicles, well-maintained access roads, and efficient lighting. The fort draws global tourists and

provides direct and indirect employment to hundreds of people, contributing meaningfully to the local economy.

Jodhpur is now a prominent destination on the world tourism map, thanks in no small part to the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort. But this is only a glimpse of India's untapped potential. Tourism, if nurtured, could account for 15% of our GDP, a significant contributor to our economic growth.

The road ahead is clear: by preserving and developing our heritage sites, improving urban cleanliness, eradicating poverty, and enhancing basic infrastructure—be it road, rail, or air—we can elevate our tourism sector. Affordable, quality accommodations would further boost this potential.

Mehrangarh is just one example of how our cultural heritage can pave the way for both economic and social prosperity.

To truly appreciate the grandeur and timeless beauty of Mehrangarh Fort, I have created a short video capturing some of its most remarkable features.

Let this be a reminder that India’s cultural wealth, if nurtured and showcased, can serve as a powerful engine for economic growth.
